Official Board Markets, February, 2003
Weyerhaeuser Co., Federal Way, Wash., has eliminated 30 salaried positions at its containerboard mill in Plymouth, N.C., reports Forestweb. The job cuts are the first in a planned total workforce reduction of 165 positions in the first quarter announced in December as part of the mill's efforts to remain competitive.
Efforts are underway to also cut 135 hourly workers at the mill. Mill officials are meeting with hourly employees this week to outline severance options for that group. The Plymouth mill employs about 1300 people and manufactures about 1300 tons a day of linerboard and corrugating medium, 1100 tons a day of uncoated free-sheet, and 400 tons a day of bleached softwood kraft fluff market pulp.
