With only a few weeks left until the first phase of Wal-Mart's radio frequency identification (RFID) project initial launch, participants at TAPPI's International Corrugated Packaging Conference in Atlanta, held earlier this month, heard real-world updates on the status of the project and how it will affect box makers.

The RFID mandate requires Wal-Mart's top 100 suppliers to provide electronic product code (EPC)-tagged cases and pallets to the retail giant starting in January.
