Wal-Mart RFID deadline won't be met: top 100 suppliers.(radio frequency identification)(Brief Article)

By now, the top 100 suppliers to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. were supposed to be shipping all their products with RFID tags at the case and pallet level to three of the retailing giant's distribution centers in North Texas, but that deadline now appears to have slipped by as suppliers struggle with the technology, and associated costs.
In an article in The New York Times on Dec. 27, a Wal-Mart spokesperson said that only about 65 percent of the volumes from those suppliers will be tagged by the deadline. About 40 of the suppliers are expected to tag all their bulk shipments, but others will only be in a position to tag a fraction. To date, most of Wal-Mart's suppliers have not figured out inexpensive ways to automate the printing and application of the tags....
