Federal officials sue folding carton converter.(ANTI-DISCRIMINATION)
Official Board Markets, October, 2006
Federal anti-discrimination officials sued Western Container Co., a Kansas City, Mo., folding carton converter, last week, claiming the company did little to stop racial harassment of black employees. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the stilt in district federal court in Kansas City against Western Container.
In the lawsuit, the agency alleged that a black employee was repeatedly subjected to race-based abuse in 2003, including hand-drawn pictures of black men hanging from nooses, racial slurs and graffiti. The employee and some co-workers said they complained to supervisors, but nothing was done immediately to stop the incidents. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
