Imagine a dinner hour without some telemarketer calling. Imagine opening up your e-mail and discovering not one unsolicited offer. Well, if state legislatures and the federal government have their way, that happy Eden may be coming. Peace! It's wonderful. Thanks to the feds, you will be able to put your personal phone number(s) on a "do not call" list--and telemarketers will respect the list or face fines. And spam (unsolicited e-mail advertising) is being outlawed in more and more jurisdictions, as are junk faxes. And the U.S. is not alone! I have stories from Australia, among other countries, detailing problems with unsolicited commercial text messages on cell phones and the need for "do not call" and "do not mail" lists to stop the onslaught of intrusions on...
