When you're driving on the 101 Freeway in a Porsche Carrera, it's not always easy to remember mother's advice, "Don't forget to smell the roses." For roses, and most everything else, pass in a blur. One has to slow to a crawl, about 60 mph in a Porsche, to realize the folly of persistently traveling through life at high speeds. Slowing down allows one to witness the natural splendor of grape vines decked out in their red and gold autumn colors, stretching as far as the eye could see on the road to Monterey, California, the site of the 2004 Internet Librarian conference.
However, no one knows the need for speed better than librarians as we wait for our high-speed Internet connection to deliver an answer to a patron's question. Indeed, without broadband...
