The information from Dave was very enlightening. I was personally unfamiliar with W3C, and took the opportunity to look them up to see if there was something that we could learn from them. What I found was a loosely organized sort of organization that develops "recommended practices" for software implementation. They are not incorporated, and do business trader the auspices of three universities. It appears that they do not control the commercial interchange of products, and only agree upon the format and schema used to move information around. While this is a very important part of the worldwide business picture, it is very different from the SEMI charter.
