Fuji introduces vastly larger-capacity floppy diskette technology. (Fuji Photo Film Company Ltd.)

Fuji Photo Film has announced the introduction of a new application for an existing technology that will increase standard 3.5-inch floppy disk storage capacity by more than 50 times over current capacities.

The company's Advanced Thinlayer and high-Output Metal Media process (ATOMM) was developed in 1992 and produced a very thin 0.1 to 0.5-micron upper layer of metal particles simultaneously coated over a non-magnetic layer of titanium called Titan-Fine. One-sixth the size of metal magnetic particles, this process resulted in a harder surface and a lower dropout rate.
