New SanDisk Technology Increases Flash Memory Capacity.(Brief Article)

A new generation of flash memory technology has been introduced by SanDisk Corporation of Sunnyvale, CA, increasing the capacity of MultiMediaCards, PC Cards, CompactFlash cards, SD (Secure Digital) Memory Cards, FlashDrives and flash chipsets. The new 256-megabit technology is the third generation of D2, or Double Density, which doubles the capacity of flash storage products by storing two bits of data in each flash cell instead of the typical one bit.

The new technology offers a capacity of 1.2 GB for a Type II PC Card, up from 440 MB, with the same increase for the FlashDrive form factor. SanDisks top capacity for the MultiMediaCard doubled to 64 MB. Its Type I CompactFlash cards will now be available with 192 MB capacity, up from 96 MB, and its Type II CF...
