In an effort to reduce the exchange of illegitimate copies of software via the Internet, the Software & Information Industry Association (SILA) has released a set of recommended policies and procedures for Internet auction site operators.

After discussions with auction site operators and other interested parties, STIA developed three business models that vary in level of restriction, and inversely in likelihood of unauthorized software being transferred -- and liability for the auction site.
