PS2 Launch Cut; Toys "R" Us To Carry DVD-Video Titles.

Tape-Disc Business, October, 2000

Sony Computer Entertainment America said it will ship just 500,000 PlayStation 2 units for the October 26 PS2 North America launch, half the number of units it originally hoped to ship.

Sony hopes to follow up the launch by shipping 100,000 units a week through the holiday season, for a total of 1.3 million units.

On a related note, U.S. toy store chain Toys "R" Us will begin carrying DVD-Video titles in all of its 707 U.S. stores this month in anticipation of the PS2 launch.

No information was available on how many titles each story will carry, although the selection is expected to be limited to movies rated no stronger than PG-13.
