X box and DataPlay highlighted the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held earlier this month in Las Vegas, NV.

DataPlay's 500 MB, quarter-sized optical disc took "Best Overall Lifestyle Product" at the show. The format, which can be used for applications including games, e-books and music, will be launched later this year. DataPlay investors include the likes of Ritek, Universal Music Group, Toshiba and Samsung.

Meanwhile, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates unveiled the much-anticipated Xbox videogame console at a CES keynote presentation. Xbox is scheduled for a fall 2001 launch in the U.S. Electronic Arts is committed to supporting the Xbox launch with up to 10 titles.
