What Is the Matter with Coffee?

One attribute of coffee is that ever since people began encountering the drink, they found it wonderful. Wonderful in the meaning of filling them with wonder. Coffee had an effect on western culture unequalled by any other beverage. With it we have defined in many different ways our concepts of house, work and public social gatherings. Coffee relates to our basic ideas of home and hearth, of preparing and completing tasks, of the ubiquitous "cafe" itself as a place for private revery or for talk with friends and foe.

That accepted, coffee has become boring. This began happening to the drink in the latter part of the 20th century. Coffee became too cheap - and we steadily devalue...
