Charles Williamson was formerly the head of Matthew Algie Ltd., the Glasgow, Scotland-based coffee roasters.

David Williamson, the current managing director, has told Boughton's Coffee House, a U.K. retail-newsletter, this of his father (which we reprint):

"During his time running Matthew Algie he took it from a small tea and coffee company on the brink of bankruptcy in 1956 and built it into one of the leading companies in the business. He pioneered the free on loan approach to filter equipment (1974), created grinders (1987), introduced the first bean to cup machines into the market (1988) and generally took on the big players with traditional values of exceptional customer service and great quality.
