It has been a busy year for Las Vegas. The holiday season brought the historic openings of two more major resorts, while the rest of the year saw the implosion of a major Las Vegas icon, the Chapter 11 filings of two more resorts, myriad development announcements, quiet sales and acquisitions dealings in hotel properties, and the opening of countless new restaurants and clubs.
While the events of Sept. 11 hit all businesses and industries hard, Las Vegas took the hit with its chin up. The city turned challenge into opportunity and launched an emergency marketing campaign to get the drive traffic back and the bargain hunters on the case. Hotels that took advantage of the city's booming popularity in the past with over-the-top rates were suddenly affordable....
