According to a recent study from Research Data Services Inc., the average visitor to Pinellas County (St. Petersburg and Clearwater are in Pinellas County) lives in the Midwest, has a median annual household income of $74,387 and a tendency to spend $83.75 per person in the county each day of the visit.

Tourists in Pinellas tend to travel in packs of 2.7 people and stay an average of 7.2 days. The study also shows that despite Sept. 11, the number of visitors to the area for the year grew 0.6 percent overall; the amount of money spent grew 2.5 in 2001 versus winter 2000, when it grew 4.3 percent; and the amount of money those visitors spent grew 6.7 percent. In the summer of 2001, tourism grew 1.5 percent over 2000, and expenditures increased 3.3 percent.
