USA offer aborted. (Travel Technology).(Brief Article)

Travel Agent, June, 2002

Barry Diller's USA Interactive offered a reported $4.5 billion to buy the shares that it does not own of three publicly traded subsidiaries--Expedia, Ticketmaster and Hotels.com--early last week. But the company said later that week that due to market reaction to its announcement, it now does not anticipate making the offers in the near future.

It said it will take a long time for everyone involved to understand the process and the issues involved. Expedia, Hotels.com and Ticketmaster have all appointed independent directors to study the USA offer.
