Vampires are back, and ghosts have never gone out of fashion. To prove the point, several tour operators are offering special programs during the Halloween period.

Dracula, of course, is a prime example of the scary legends tracing their history to Europe. According to the Romanian National Tourist Office, the real Dracula--named Vlad Tepes, nicknamed "the Impaler"--was born in the town of Sighisoara in the province of Transylvania in Romania. He was the son of a knight named Vlad Dracul. In the Romanian language, "Drac" means "devil"; therefore "Dracula" means "son of the devil."
