After two years dedicated to consolidating its union with Allegro Resorts, Madrid-based Occidental Hotels & Resorts is ready for action: it is opening more properties, upgrading brands and expanding its presence in the U.S. market.
The acquisition of Allegro in 2000 brought a wealth of Caribbean properties to the Occidental portfolio, and was the fulfillment of a dream that began 20 years ago, when company President Gregorio de Diego founded the Occidental chain in Spain. From the beginning the company set out to expand from Spain to other countries, especially to the Caribbean, where de Diego saw the opportunities for growth even in the company's early stages, says company CEO Gabriel Felip.
