According to Caribbean tourism officials and travel agents, the resort area of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is expected to be one of the Caribbean travel hot spots for 2003. "Four or five years ago, when we jumped into the Punta Cana market, there were hardly any Americans," says Ray Mathes, vice president of product development for Apple Vacations. "But the hotels got their act together. Product and service levels are getting better and better, and it is really selling well for Apple." Punta Cana is making its play for the U.S. market with the rebranding of two properties to Super-Clubs, a name familiar among the American traveling public.

Other properties and resort areas on the island are announcing news and vacation packages this whiter season....
