Cendant Corp. purchased Trip Network Inc., a full-service online travel agency in which it already held a stake. It also will phase out its Trip.com brand, which it purchased when it bought Galileo International in 2001. It had relaunched the site a year ago with a major advertising campaign.

Trip Network's Cheap Tickets will replace Trip.com as Cendants primary online travel brand. Trip.com was never able to win the same consumer attention as its rivals, Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz. In contrast, the Cheap Tickets discount site, which Cendant bought in October 2001, had proven to be more popular than Trip.com.
