In a study commissioned by Orbitz and performed by Global Aviation Associates, the cost of distributing airline tickets was found to be significantly less through the travel portal than through a Sabre-based brick-and-mortar agency. The study said the average cost for booking an airline ticket through Orbitz is $16.43; when fees paid by the airline and customer service fees are added, the cost to distribute through Orbitz is $21.68 versus $52.75 for the typical agency.
