The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' FY 2005 budget proposal includes $50 million for the Mentoring Children of Prisoners initiative, a program supported by President Bush, that is aimed at ending the shame and stigma for children who have parents that are incarcerated.
In FY 2004 more than 50 grants were awarded to nonprofits and faith-based organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County, Pa., in suburban Philadelphia.
