GAO recommends better data collection to show national job training outcomes.

The federal government needs to do a better job of collecting and compiling data under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to show the nationwide outcomes being achieved under the job training program, according to the U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO).
In a new report, GAO called on the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to develop a systematic way for accounting for different types of WIA participants and differing economic conditions. In addition, GAO recommended that DOL do a better job of helping states and localities share WIA best practices. The watchdog agency recommended that Congress consider requiring the tracking of all WIA participants for reporting purposes.
