Safeway Plc, the fourth largest supermarket chain in the U.K., said that its Q2 sales in stores open longer than a year rose 5.1%. The rise, which came after customers were lured into stores with bigger price reductions, combined with same-store sales increase of 5%, contributed to the company's stock rising 44% in the past 12 months.
