KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Philips Consumer Electronics is getting 'smart' this spring, expanding its core consumer electronics business to include wireless products that address the 'smart' home of the future.

At its spring line showing in Palm Springs, Cal., Philips unveiled convenience products for the home - wireless home security devices that consumers will be able to fetch for between $50 and $400 in consumer electronics retailers and mass merchants.

"We tested it at Sears and they went nuts over it," said Ed Volkwein, senior vice president and general manager of sales and marketing.
