SAN JOSE, Cal. - Strong 1994 sales of multimedia PCs in the consumer market spurred a 227 per cent growth in multimedia software last year, according to the recently published Dataquest Multimedia Market Trends 1995 report.
This study of data from 1992 through 1994 forecasts the status of multimedia products up to the year 2000.
"Games, reference books and education titles were the big hits o 1994," says Bruce Ryon, director and principal analyst of Dataquest's Multimedia Worldwide program. "Along with the battle for shelf space, the profit margin squeeze is choking developers as the average factory selling price of CD-ROM titles has sunk to an all-time low of $11 a copy.
