New York--Sharp Electronics Corp. will reenter the compact canister business this summer with an improved line featuring micro-filtration bags, cord rewind and one-touch release.

The two new models replace the Japanese-made bagless machines that Sharp stopped selling to independents several years ago. With the new features, colors and design, Sharp officials are optimistic about its return to the market.

"It helps round out our offerings," said Debra Block Labruna, product marketing manager of the Sharp Appliance Division. "It fulfills a need in the market."

The canisters were highlighted at Sharp's spring product preview here last week. Dealers have been shown prototypes
