NEW YORK--Strong sales of PCs and related products continue to bolster retailers, as evidenced by record quarters that OfficeMax and CompUSA reported last week.

OfficeMax's sales for its first quarter ended April 22 reached a record high, chairman and chief executive Michael Feuer told analysts, thank to robust sales of computer products.

For the 13-week period, Feuer reported sales climbed 32.7 percent to $557.9 million, up from $420.3 million for the period a year ago. Same-store sales for the quarter rose 15.6 percent on top of the 20.8 percent registered a year earlier.
