Computer industry executives are praising Intel for its successful retail-level marketing campaign for the Pentium microprocessor. Some retailers claim that customers ask to see Pentium-equipped computers more often than they ask to see specific brands such as IBM or Compaq. Intel's strategy has involved attracting consumers by winning over retailers. Pentium-based PCs began to outsell 486-based machines in Apr 1995.
