Texas Instruments. (introduces the TI-92 high-powered calculator)(Brief Article)

HFN: The Weekly Newspaper for the Home Furnishing Network, July, 1995

DALLAS--Texas Instrument says it has a new gizmo that crams the mathematical power of a computer into a handheld calculator.

The TI-92, with an anticipated street price of $200, was engineered with the high school and college math student mind. The price, the company says, will enable teachers to turn their classrooms into "computer labs" at a fraction of the cost.

The high-powered calculator can handle algebra, calculus, interactive geometry, symbolic manipulation, statistics and 3D graphics. Features include function and calculator keys; a snap-on cover that also serves as a three-position stand for desktop use; 128K of RAM (70K of user memory) and a built- in I/O port so users can link two systems and transfer information.
