WASHINGTON (FNS) - The Department of Energy' s decision last month to drop the proposed rule on energy efficiency standards for televisions could benefit such major appliances with low energy use as ranges, microwaves and ovens, said Charles A. Samuels, government relations counsel here for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

In a Federal Register notice June 23, the DOE cited a host of reasons for dropping proposed energy-efficiency standards for television sets, one of which was that they use relatively little energy.
