SEATTLE--Private investors purchased Sur La Table, a specialty store, last month for an undisclosed price. Sur La Table, which was founded in 1972 by Shirley Collins, will continue to operate in its historical Pike place Market location. Collins will consult with the store. The store, with sales of $7.2 million--which includes a catalog--will continue to offer upscale housewares.

The new owners, the Behnke, familym, will head the new management team and expand the retail operations. Plans include a store in Berkeley, Cal. Carole Couture, previously a Bon Marche executive and most recently vice president of design and product development with Design Imporst India, has been named general manager will direct catalog operations.
