In an unusual collaboration, Kaplan Interactive, the multimedia division of Kaplan Education Centers, and two retailers - Computer City and CompUSA last week took out a full page advertisement in Newsweek Magazine to report the availability of the company's new products - On Campus 96 and SAT Road Trip 96.

While software publishers and retailers are seldom seen together in consumer magazine ads, Kaplan Interactive has leveraged its position as a wholly owned subsidiary of The Washington Post Co., which also owns Newsweek, to help with its entry into the retail market. "Our relationship with Newsweek as our sister company has enabled us to expand our cooperative relationships with CompUSA and Computer City," said Melissa Mack, a spokeswoman for Kaplan Interactive....
