Retailers are thanking Windows 95, in part, for an increase in sales during the month of August.
In a report on August and second quarter sales, Minneapolis-based Best Buy Co., said August sales reached $526 million, 59 percent more than the $330 million attained in the previous years' four week period. Sales for the second fiscal quarter were $1.437 billion, a 54 percent increase over the second fiscal quarter of 1994.
"Best Buy was able to achieve better sales results in August through intensified marketing of personal computer products and the introduction of Windows 95 software," said Richard Schulze, Best Buy's founder and chairman.
