HP Kayak available via cable for now.(Brief Article)

NEW YORK - Hewlett Packard Co.'s home products division was in town the other day to show off its Kayak System digital media receiver, an interactive set-top box that will become available next year.

The only catch is the product will not be available at retail. Initially, it will be distributed through cable operators.

HP marketing manager Jeff Hornung said Kayak cannot be sold at retail until certain federal issues concerning the cable industry are resolved. In fact, HP brand manager Casey Sheldon said the company believes the biggest distribution channel for the product will be retail.
