Telecom giants in sat TV.(AT&T and MCI enter small-dish satellite television business)

Telecommunications giants AT&T and MCI are taking steps to enter the small-dish satellite television business. AT&T plans to offer DirecTv Inc's Digital Satellite System directly to AT&T subscribers. MCI and News Corp, by bidding nearly $700 million for the right to deliver high-power digital signals, have indicated their intention to develop a new small-dish service.

New York - Two of the largest marketers of telecommunications threw their muscle behind the small-dish digital satellite TV business last week.

AT&T is going with the leading system already on the market, and MCI is in a partnership to build its own broadcast system.

Under a deal struck with DirecTv Inc., AT&T said early in the week it plans to offer a Digital Satellite System package...
