Best Buy hired Bill Cody, who worked as a major appliance buyer for Sears for 25 years, as its new merchandise manager for appliances. Best Buy considers itself a discount retailer of appliances, consumer electronics, entertainment software and home office equipment. It plans to introduce a gourmet section in all of its stores by May 1996. The housewares/appliances area will cover approximately 6,000 sq ft, an expansion of approximately 40% in 1996.
MINNEAPOLIS--Best Buy has begun the drive to expand better housewares and major appliances by signing on several housewares vendors and naming an industry veteran to manage the businesses.
