Philips joins the fray in PC/TV. (Philips Consumer Electronics, multimedia access terminal)(Brief Article)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--Philips Consumer Electronics unveiled two versions of a PC/TV device it dubbed MAT, for multimedia access terminal, at its annual product line showing here last week.

One version, a PC/TV Web browser, will ship later this year and is expected to retail from $300 to $500. The second version will be a full-blown home theater system, to be priced around $2,000, for early '97.

The second version, Philips said, will take the shape of a "command center" device, able to work with various consumer electronics, telephony and computer devices and will include home security functions and access to the Internet.
