SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The Thermos Co., supplier of insulated products, has reentered the soft-sided cooler business with three new lines.

"We first introduced soft-sided coolers in 1989," said Rita Patel, product manager of Thermos, "but I don't think the market was ready at that point, and we kind of walked away."

But over the last three years, she said, "sales of soft-sided coolers have skyrocketed. And with these introductions, we have a chance to increase our market share of the cooler business" -- which she projects will grow by 80 percent in 1997. Thermos is the fourth-largest cooler supplier in North America, according to Patel.
