LAS VEGAS -- LG Electronics marked its entry into the computer hardware category at Comdex here with the introduction of its handheld PC.

LG, one of several companies to unveil a handheld personal computer, or HPC, will offer three versions: a baseline unit with 2Mb of memory, a step-up 4Mb device and a 4Mb configuration with a fax/modem port. Prices are expected to be $500, $550 and $650, respectively.

The prices are in line with other HPC devices, which run on the Windows CE platform, a slimmed-down version of Windows 95.

Casio Computer, which makes the hardware for most of the HPC vendors, was the first to market with a unit. Its product, a 4Mb version, is selling for $499 at Staples and other stores.
