NORCROSS, Ga. -- Mitsubishi's number-two executive in the U.S., Jack Osborn, resigned Thursday.

Osborn, as president and chief operating officer, oversaw the manufacturing, sales and marketing of the company's audio and video products.

His job will be taken over by Suketaka Tachibana, who was named to the new post of chairman and chief executive of Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America six months ago.

A company statement said that Osborn "decided to pursue other opportunities." He could not be reached for comment.

The statement said the posts of president and chief operating officer will be eliminated.
