SANTA ANA, Cal. -- Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America Inc. (MCEA), will close its manufacturing facility here and shift its production of projection TVs to Mexicali, Mexico by the end of the year.

A statement from the company said that the transfer of production to Mexicali will eliminate a total of 380 jobs in Santa Ana and that the decision to close the facility was made because it "would significantly reduce costs."

"To survive in today's competitive audio/video marketplace, electronics manufacturers are forced to cut costs wherever possible," said Suketaka Tachibana, chairman and chief executive.
