NEW YORK (FNS) -- Lightbulb maker Osram Sylvania has agreed to stop making false claims about the mercury dose in its fluorescent lamps, according to Philips Lighting Co.

Philips' lawsuit was settled on March 6, a day after it was filed in Manhattan federal court.

According to a Philips spokesman, Osram agreed to stop making claims that its Octron/Eco T-8 Linear and Curvalume lamps feature the lowest mercury dose of any 4-foot fluorescent lamp.

Philips charged Osram with comparing the mercury dose of Osram's yet-to-be-released low-mercury fluorescent lamps with Phillips' ALTO lamps based on inaccurate data. Osram's claims were made in advertising, Web-site messages and other marketing materials.
