RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Samsung Electronics America's information systems division is shipping two new CD-ROM drives -- one of which is the supplier's first 12-speed drive. The other is an eight-speed unit.
The 12-speed drive features a rotational speed of 6,360 rpm, achieving a transfer rate of 1.8MB per second -- all of which is designed to quicken access to CD-ROMs and audio compact discs. It is priced at $131.
The eight-speed drive, which features a transfer rate of 1.2MB per second, is plug-and-play, Windows 95 and OS/2 compatible. Price is $120.
Samsung is supporting both drives with a one-year warranty and toll-free support.
