WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In cooperation with he U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), five bunk bed makers have recalled more than 3,000 wooden and metal bunk beds said to present potential entrapment hazards to young children.
Certain models of bunk beds from IEM Furniture, Acme Trading, Lewis Furniture, Silver Eagle Corp and Chicken & Egg Furniture are said to have openings on the top bunk large enough for a child's body to pass thought, but small enough to entrap a child's head.
The ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials) voluntary standard for bunk beds requires that, in addition to having guard rails on both sides of the top bunk, all spaces between the guard rail and bed frame, and in the head and foot boards on the top bunk, be less...
