NEW YORK -- Compaq Computer and Intel have made public an agreement with key consumer electronics vendors to establish plug-and-play compatibility in an emerging home entertainment category called PC theater.
PC theater will link multimedia PCs, digital satellite television and other consumer electronics products to provide a range of home entertainment from television viewing to Web browsing and computer gaming.
Compaq and Intel are working with Thomson Consumer Electronics, Hitachi Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corp., NEC Technologies Inc., Philips Electronics and Toshiba Corp.
The goal of these manufacturers is to establish industrywide standards that will assure that different brands of PCs and electronics can be combined in home PC theater...
