Lawrence Schnadig, founder of firm, dies.(Schnadig Corp.)(Brief Article)

Lawrence K. Schnadig, chairman of the Schnadig Corp., one of the few privately held manufacturers of upholstered furniture, died at his home in Highland Park, Ill., after a long illness. He was 89.

Schnadig, a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, started his career in the furniture business with the Pullman Couch Co. and later became the company's president. When Pullman Couch was sold, he formed Schnadig Corp. in partnership with Sears, Roebuck & Co. in 1951. Sears' inter- est was subsequently repurchased.

Schnadig was elected into the American Furniture Hall of Fame in 1990.
