Micron Electronics Inc. reportedly will become the first major direct-mail computer vendor to enter the sub-$1,000 personal computer market. The company will launch a $999 Millenia SE model. Among its features are a 233MHz MMX Pentium chip, 16MB of memory, 3.2GB hard drive, a 2MB video card and a 16x CD-ROM drive.
A 15-inch monitor is available separately for $200. The computer supplier studied the market for several months before deciding to launch the product, according to Jeff Moser, vice president of the desktop group.
