THE DEBATE GOES ON: COUCH OR SOFA?(conflicting study results concerning which term is most used)

NEW YORK-What's in a name? Apparently plenty, according to the Couch Potato Poll, a national consumer survey commissioned by DuPont Dacron Fiberfill. Given the choice, most people are likely to say couch (67 percent) as compared to those who say sofa (30 percent).

Amazingly enough, when the question -- Are consumers more likely to say couch or sofa? -- was posed in a separate poll to furniture manufacturers and retailers, the results were reversed. Retailers believed consumers say sofa (67 percent) and furniture manufacturers agreed, saying consumers would say sofa before couch (60 percent).
